The Wine Route Utiel-Requena (Designation of Origin) takes its name from the two larger towns of the area, but brings together a total of 10 municipalities: Requena, Utiel, Sinarcas, Camporrobles, Fuenterrobles, Caudete de las Fuentes, Villagordo de Cabriel, Venta del Moro, Siete Aguas and Chera. Don’t miss the chance to discover the oldest documented winemaking area in Spain: dating back 2700 years linked to wine history, testified in the Iberian settlement of Solana de las Pilillas located close to Requena.
Day 1. Arrival to Valencia.
Meet and greet the guide. Transfer from airport/train station to the town of Requena, 70 kilometres distance from the capital, Valencia. Visit to Pago de Tharsys winery, which belongs to the wine route Utiel-Requena. An introductory course of the wine from this area will be given to find out about the characteristics that determine its quality, its elaboration, guidelines to follow in its selection, acquisition and conservation. Afterwards transfer to Oli Oli oil mill, where biodynamic extra virgin olive oil is obtained, enjoying a traditional menu lunch, in a unique natural landscape. Then the program continues in Requena with a cultural visit of the historic old town: entrance to the underground Caves of the Villa (underneath caves what is now the Plaza de la Villa, used as a silo of cereals, wine cellar, refuge and even an ossuary), Homage Tower (Arab remains) and churches of St. Nicholas (13th century), Santa Maria (14th century) and Salvador (14th-16th centuries). Later, check in at Hotel La Villa**, located in the heart of the old town of Requena, cozy hotel opened in 2005. For dinner: a wine tasting and tapas in a local restaurant.
Day 2. Requena.
After breakfast, visit the Bodega Redonda in Utiel, a Wine Museum with circular shape building which was built in 1891, one of the main spots on the route Utiel-Requena. The experience is completed with a wine tasting. At noon visit to a local butchery, specialized in different meats for several generations, keeping the gastronomic tradition of the area producing fresh and cured meats and hams as well as different meat preserves.
The next stop will be the organic Aranleón winery, located in a natural park Hoces del Cabriel. After the guided tour and wine tasting a lunch in the vineyards will be held. Return to the hotel. Free time to rest and dinner.
Day 3. Valencia.
Check out after breakfast. Visit Vera de Estenas Winery, an interactive activity called "Make your own wine" will be on schedule, to learn how to make the wine blending different varieties that will be tasted in situ. Afterwards, departure to a country house to enjoy a paella cooking show conducted by an experienced native chef. Later return to Valencia, transfer to airport/train station. End of our services.
