History and Culture

The Wine Route of Yecla is managed by the Government of Yecla, the Consejo Regulador DO Vinos de Yecla (the Regulating Council of the Wine Appellation of Yecla) along with several other institutions and private companies in the wine, leisure and gastronomy sector such as wineries, oil mills, restaurants, hotels, travel agencies, and so on, aiming to promote and develop   the touristic resources of Yecla, being wine the main theme.

The Yecla Route allows us to explore our town through wine culture and its touristic resources, showing our visitors the cultural diversity achieved with the pass of years: vineyards, old and modern wineries, wine tastings, gastronomy, monumental and natural resources, celebrations and other touristic services such as places to stay overnight, theme activities, etc. This is our contribution to preserving our winemaking tradition and the respect for the historic and environmental values of our land.

Land of the Monastrell variety

6500 hectares of vineyards, a unique variety as Monastrell and a winemaking tradition clearly defined by the specific and creative character of people from Yecla have allowed the creation of excellent wines which have gained international recognition and their merited position the most demanding and forwarded markets nowadays.  

Tasting DO Yecla wines is an experience that takes us directly the land with a deeply rooted winemaking tradition that goes back to the Phoenicians. Our wines, as well as the techniques and technologies that have been incorporated in the winemaking processes, have evolved to provide yet more balanced and elegant wines, loaded with all  the fruitiness and freshness of our beloved variety Monastrell, and the complexity of flavours and aromas which perfectly match with their quality.
