History and Culture

The Wine Route in La Sierra de Francia is located in Castilla y León, southwest of the province of Salamanca, protected by the D.O.P. Sierra de Salamanca. It has a millenary wine culture as their vineyards testify, located in terraces dated among the oldest in Spain and the multiple rock wineries that we find throughout the territory. Besides, it hides a treasure to discover, the native grape variety Rufete.

The Wine

The Rufete, the alchemy of a territory.

The D.O.P. Sierra de Salamanca is located southwest of the province of Salamanca with an extension of 482,10 Km2, in which there is a variety of autochthonous grape, being the alchemy of this territory The Rufete grape.

A humid Mediterranean climate with abundant rainfall promotes the cultivation of a big variety of grapes: the Tempranillo, the Garnacha Tinta, the Viura or the Palomino among others, but Rufete is the most predominant, variety of autochthonous grape of complex elaboration that it will give you delicate scents with hints of red and spiced fruits, with sweet and soft tannins which give elegance, freshness and complexity to the wines.

This farming developed in terraces is an example of the space won to the mountain in a sustainable way by grape growers, conforming a spectacular landscape in the territory. Another characteristic of the vineyards is the variety of grounds where it is produced, granite, slate and corneal floors. In addition to the longevity of the strains, 80% of them are over 50 years old and 50% are over 80 years old. As well as the strong height differences in which you can find the vineyard from 400 m to almost 1.000 m, giving a wide range of characterization in wines.

The D.O.P. Sierra de Salamanca is formed by small wineries that take maximum care of the cultivation of their vineyards and the production, making high quality wines, with recognized prestige at national and international level, where you can taste and know the delicate wine process.
